Ocean Springs MS Wow! Was February a busy
month or what? First there was the Superbowl,
which I am happy to say was won by the Pittsburgh
Steelers, their sixth Superbowl win! More
than any other team has ever won! Then came
Mardi Gras, with the Ocean Springs parades and
Fat Tuesday celebration. We really Laissez les
Bontemps Roulez at the Fort Bayou Saloon! I
can honestly say I outdid myself this year with
the red beans and gumbo that were served. If
you missed the New Orleans Cajun cuisine at
The Fort’s, Mardi Gras celebrations, you missed
some great eating!
New at The Fort! Along with providing karaoke Wednesdays and Saturdays, now “DJ Cowboy”
is with us EVERY FRIDAY! He’ll be playing dance music for you “by request”, so you can
“shake, shake, shake - shake your.….”, and if have the urge to take the mike, karaoke it is!
Come join us for a fun time at the Fort Bayou Saloon.
The “BUZZTIME” Interactive Trivia Game is a real hit at The Fort. We will soon be kicking
off our “BuzzTime” Trivia Contest, where you can compete for CASH and prizes. It’s a load of
fun playing. Stop by and see what all “the Buzz” is about.
It’s time to make plans for March 21st and our annual Blessing of the Bikes Crawfish Boil.
This is the sixth year for this event at the Fort Bayou Saloon. As always, “Bobby Redneck” and
his crew will be boilin’ up the crawfish, along with corn, potatoes, sausage and a few other surprises.
Be sure to mark your calendar now. You won’t want to miss it!
Details of the Fort Bayou Saloon’s 1st Annual “Crawfish Toss” for charity are .
Kind of like the “Mullet Toss” at the FloraBama Lounge, only different! It’s something you don’t
want to miss! The actual date and all the particulars will be coming soon.
“Open Mike ight” is every Tuesday, starting at 9:00 PM and going on until…late! We have
had some really great singers and song writers performing lately.
We aren’t the biggest, and we aren’t the fanciest,
but we are definitely one of the friendliest places you will find in Ocean Springs.
Gonna Have Great Fun at the Bayou!

A girlfriend
and I went to see
the new relationship
movie that is in theatres. You know the one…
it is about Him simply not being that interested in
Her. It was modeled after the book by the same
name and was wildly popular a few years back.
Well, one of my partners in crime and I took in
the matinee with great anticipation. We had seen
the previews and been told by other women that it
is wildly funny. Okay, so… soft drinks and
snacks in hand we kicked back for a few hours of
mindless entertainment.
In the opening scenes they show young children
on the playground. A little girl is minding her own
business when a boy a year or so older walks up,
shoves her down, and calls her names. The bewildered
girl picks herself up runs to her mother and relates
the details of her distasteful experience. The
mother brushes her off, smiles knowingly and then
quietly explains to her that this young man is flirting
with her and that his abusive actions were because he
did not know how to express himself in any other
way. Yes, he likes her… I guess if he was enamored
with her she might require a cast or stitches???
This was when my girlfriend and I looked at
each other in shocked disbelief. This shock was
D’Iberville,
MS-- Since the
first weekend that
Coffee Fusion opened
their doors, in October of 2003, they have hosted
and supported live music on the Gulf Coast. At
first in their Ocean Springs location and eventually
at their D’Iberville store as well. Owners
Adam & Tram Flinchum wanted to provide a
family friendly environment for artists and music
lovers alike to express them selves and enjoy live
entertainment.
In January of 2008, due to economic pressure of
the recession and music licensing expenses, they
discontinued hosting live entertainment at both locations
indefinitely. A hard decision says Adam.
“We were losing money every time we did it and
just had to adapt our business to the economic pressures.”
“This wasn’t the only changes we made.”
says Adam. “We re-evaluated our scheduling, our
hours of operation, and put our menu and recipe’s
under a magnifying glass.” “Many touch decisions
due to two realizations. Number one was that we
had been programmed in this way by parents,
teachers, etc. Number two was that we had even
unwittingly passed on this ridiculous and damaging
notion to other young girls.
The remainder of the movie was not as productive
as this one little nugget of info. The movie was
just chock full of women who chased down men
[pffft… aint gonna happen], sat around whining
about their situations [can you say victim?? Hellloooo?],
and justified the males in their lives not
calling/showing up/being dependable. Because if
a man does not call, pushes you away, is afraid of
commitment then he just likes you so much he can’t
handle it… right? [Note: this is where Alice reaches
over and takes off your rose-colored glasses.]
If a man is not calling you then you do not call
him. Period.
Now one difference between this book and life
is that it targets the twenty something crowd. And
yes, males at this age do have the drive to seemingly
pursue what they want. But, I contend that
males in their forties have unfortunately lost a bit
of that “pursue” factor. And they are more easily
distracted by work and life’s issues. So, if they are
not calling you back, then it might truly be work
and he truly may interested BUT if you are calling
him… then he has no reason to get off of his duff.
A smart Southern Gal will sashay and flirt in various
and assorted ways whilst she simply tells him
she is interested and then continues to live her fabulous
life. If he comes back; lovely. If not; lovely.
True. If you call him and arrange the dates and
just relax your expectations… you can manipulate
him into dating and even marriage. I say this because
there ‘aint nuthin’a true Sothern Gal can’t do
if/when she sets her mind to it. And if THIS is his
best then won’t you have simply won the prize, Hon.
Bless your heart.

Live Music / Open Mic
Is Back
were made, in an effort to survive.”
Finally a year later the Coffee Fusion family is
proud to announce Open Mic / Live Music is back
at their D’Iberville location, every Friday & Saturday
night. Adam, a former musician himself,
says he “feels the time is right for a new beginning
and an investment for coast musicians lives.”
Adam says “There aren’t many live music venues
on the coast left and none that I know of that offer
all ages access, in a smoke-free alcohol-free
room.” Tram adds, “It’s great for the artists as
well as the fans.” “They can bring their
Teenagers, Parents, Grandparents, Small Children,
everyone is welcome, at no charge.”
Adam says, “We encourage artists of all ages
and backgrounds to come out and participate.
Musicians, poets, comedians, storytellers or
anyone looking for a family friendly open forum
to express yourself and be heard.”
The Mic is open to everyone every Friday
and Saturday night, at Coffee Fusion D’Iberville,
from 7pm to 10pm.
